AICZ Independence Day Celebration - July 4th, 2018
The AICZ Fourth of July event was held at the Fork and Bottle Restaurant on Zurich’s southwest side of the city. The F&B has a lovely outside garden area and we were lucky with the weather – no rain and just the right temperature. Mike, owner of the F&B provided a great BBQ of hamburgers, hotdogs, a whole pig slow cooked on a spit (yummmmmy!), green salad, potato salad, all the fixings for sandwiches, followed with the best brownies in Zurich. No one left hungry! The staff at the F&B took very good care of all in attendance. The F&B also provided a live band for the evening – good music and good food, what more could one want?
Normally, the AICZ has its 4th of July celebration on a Saturday. This year the fourth was on a Wednesday and during school days here in Zurich. We at the AICZ decided against fireworks as the children would need to go to school the next day and toned back the children games anticipating a smaller number of children. There were about 26 AICZ members, 16 AWCZ members and the restaurant estimate that a total of 130 people attend the BBQ.
Prior to the start, beach balls and jump ropes were distributed to the kids in attendance. We did have one children’s game…a peanut toss. Five peanuts were colored blue and about 8 children scrambled to grab the peanuts as fast as they could! Winners of the blue peanuts won a CHF 20 gift voucher to the Franz Carl Weber toy store in Zurich (prizes provided by the AICZ).
Prior to the event, the garden was decorated for the Fourth of July with red, white and blue decorations and helium balloons provided by the AICZ. Many thanks to AICZ members, Rich Fillipi, Rolf Holderegger, Susanne Johnson-Jung and Doris Hürlimann-Cardoza for their early arrival to decorate – I received many compliments for your special efforts to make the venue feel American Fourth of July!
Many thanks to Mike and his staff at the F&B and the AICZ volunteers for a successful AICZ Fourth of July!
